What is a heat pump?

  • Simply put, a heat pump "pumps heat" from one place to another.
  • A heat pump will pull heat out of the air or ground to heat your home when you want it warmer, but can be reversed to move heat out of your home when you want it cooler.
  • A heat pump works extremely efficiently because it simply transfers heat, rather than burn fuel to create it.

Key Benefits

Lower Running Costs

Heat pumps are cheaper to run than other heating and cooling solutions.

Less Maintenance

Heat pumps require less maintenance than traditional heating systems. A split system unit usually only requires maintenance or servicing once a year.

Better Safety

Heat pumps are safe to operate with the use of an LCD control. Since they rely on electricity and do not need to burn fuel to generate heat, they present fewer safety risks than alternative heating solutions.

Reduced Carbon Emissions

Heat pumps can reduce your carbon emissions compared with other traditional heating and cooling solutions. They also provide an efficient conversion rate of energy to heat.

Long Life Span

Well-maintained heat pumps can operate safely and reliably for an average of 15 years.

Which heat pump installation is right for me?

There are two ways heat pumps can provide heating and cooling - ducted heat pumps and split system (sometimes referred to as reverse cycle) heat pumps.

Ducted Heat Pumps
A ducted system is where the indoor coil of the heat pump is located in a duct, and air is heated and cooled before it is distributed throughout the house via vents. This results in a discreet and flexible solution, which can provide a range of heating and cooling solutions to accommodate the needs of your house, zones or individual rooms.

Split System (Reverse Cycle) Heat Pumps
A split system is where the heat pump is located in an indoor unit without requiring any ductwork. This unit is generally located on the wall or floor in the space that requires heating and cooling. These split systems are generally a more cost effective option than a ducted solution and are cheaper to install, but have a greater footprint where they are installed and don't provide the flexibility of a ducted system.

Sackett Services can work with you to determine which heat pump system is best for you and specialise in ducted heating solutions. We also have extensive experience in custom heating designs if your heating and cooling needs go beyond that of a simple residential installation.

Have you considered hydronic heating?

Hydronic heating is where a central heat source or heat pump warms the water and then distributes it via pipework to either radiator panels or a concrete slab to heat your home. Unlike other heating systems that use fans or vents to blow warm air around the room, hydronic heating warms your living space through radiation, which results in an even distribution of heat. CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL

Recently we had the good fortune to connect with Michael Sackett. We contacted Michael following a personal recommendation from a friend who had used Sackett Services in the past for heating and electrical work. We had recently purchased a house in Rose Bay and the existing heating was inadequate. The design of the house did not lend itself to a simple heating/cooling solution.

Following initial contact Michael visited us within a couple of days. We were very impressed with his comprehensive knowledge and enthusiasm to find the best possible solution to meet our needs. Following detailed discussions, Michael recommended an underfloor ducted system. We accepted his recommendation and shortly after he designed and quoted for a specific system to heat and cool our house. We were impressed with the design, cost and capacity of the system and decided to proceed with installation.

In our case installation was complex and involved a number of trades including a builder, plumber, electrician and a highly experienced installer and ducting fabricator. The installation process proceeded seamlessly, coordinated by Sackett Services Project Manager who provided regular, informative and timely updates. Michael also stayed in touch to ensure we were informed and happy with progress.

The whole process was stress free and we were mighty impressed with the attitude and knowledge of all involved. We have not previously experienced such quality of workmanship in a highly motivated and professional team. We are absolutely delighted with the outcome and have no hesitation in providing the highest possible recommendation for Michael, his team and Sackett Services.
