What Is Ducted Heating and Cooling?

Ducted heating and cooling systems offer a whole-home climate control solution.

Ducted heating involves distributing warm air throughout your home via a network of ducts connected to a central electric heat pump. This system is highly efficient and can heat multiple rooms simultaneously.

Ducted cooling operates in a similar way, using the same duct network to circulate cooled air throughout the house, ensuring consistent and even cooling. With the ability to zone your home, ducted systems allow you to control temperatures in individual rooms, enhancing energy efficiency and comfort.

DUCTED AIR CONDITIONING

Key Benefits

Permanent & Effective

Ducted air conditioning is the most permanent air conditioning solution and the most effective for cooling or heating your entire home.

Discreet

Apart from the duct vent in each room, the air conditioning system is relatively unnoticeable and can be much quieter than a split system air conditioner.

Zoning

Zoning allows you to decide whether to cool the whole house, zones or individual rooms. Zoning allows different rooms to have varying settings and/or temperatures, creating flexible cooling solutions.

Increases Property Value

Generally speaking, a ducted air conditioning system adds value to your home, as it is an expensive and permanent feature.

More Economical

A duct air conditioner can be more economical than several split systems. To reduce installation costs, it is best to install the ducted conditioning during the building or renovation process.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a ducted heat pump?
Depending on the size of the area, ducted heating can start from a price slightly higher than a floor-type heat pump system.

Do you need to service your ducted heating system?
All mechanical or electrical systems will require services to maintain efficiency and air quality, disposable filters or filter media need to be changed and cleaned regularly.

Is it cheaper to leave ducted heating on?
Depending on the type of systems and the occupancy of the house, it can be more efficient to leave central systems on. However, a different set-point should be used when the house is unoccupied.

What is the difference between a ducted heating/cooling unit and a ducted air transfer kit?
We have a lot of enquiries about installing a ducted unit when in actual fact what is needed is an air transfer kit.

An air transfer kit moves air from one room to the other via a fan and duct work.

It works well with wood heaters and is usually used to move hot air from the lounge room to the bedrooms (or other rooms in the house). However it is not efficient when working with a wall or floor mount heat pump as the heat pump is sized to the area it is required to heat or cool. When you install an air transfer kit to take more air from the room it is extra work on the unit.

While we don’t install air transfer kits, if that’s what you need, we can definitely give you the information to help, just call us.

A ducted air conditioning and heating unit is an electric heat pump which is installed with ductwork and the air is distributed through vents in the wall or floor and services multiple rooms. It is controlled via a wall controller to reach the ambient temperature throughout the whole house.

Does ducted heating and cooling come with a warranty?
We provide a full warranty on all our workmanship and on products from key suppliers, such as
Fujitsu and Mitsubishi Electric. For all domestic ducted air conditioning systems sold in Australia, we offer a 5-year full parts and labour warranty.

Can I replace my Gas Ducted system with an Electric Ducted Unit?Yes, to changeover from gas to electric, all ductwork will need to be replaced as the existing gas ductwork cannot be used for electric, , it is best we do an onsite inspection and talk to you about your otions.

Can ducted heating and cooling systems be integrated with smart home technology?
Yes, many modern ducted systems can be integrated with smart home systems, allowing you to control temperatures, zones, and schedules remotely via a smartphone or voice-activated device. This integration can increase energy efficiency and convenience by automating your heating and cooling preferences.

Are ducted heating and cooling systems energy-efficient?
Yes, ducted heating and cooling systems are designed to be energy-efficient, especially when paired with zoning options. By only heating or cooling the rooms you use, you can reduce energy consumption and lower your utility bills. Choosing a high-efficiency heat pump can further enhance savings, particularly in Tasmania’s milder climate.

What is the lifespan of a ducted heating and cooling system?
With proper maintenance, ducted heating and cooling systems can last 10 to 15 years or more. Regular servicing helps maintain system efficiency and prolongs its lifespan, making it a valuable long-term investment for your home.

Can I retrofit a ducted system into an existing home?
Yes, ducted heating and cooling systems can be retrofitted into existing homes, although it may require some modifications to ceilings or walls to accommodate the ductwork. Our team can assess your home and recommend the best approach to ensure a seamless and efficient installation.

What kind of maintenance is required for a ducted heating and cooling system?
To keep your system running efficiently, it’s important to schedule annual servicing. This includes cleaning or replacing filters, checking for leaks, inspecting the ductwork, and ensuring the system is free from obstructions. Regular maintenance helps ensure optimal air quality and system longevity.

Is a ducted heating and cooling system suitable for large homes?
Yes, ducted systems are ideal for larger homes because they can heat or cool multiple rooms simultaneously through a single system. With zoning options, you can also choose which areas of the home to focus on, reducing energy use while maintaining comfort.

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL

We moved in during winter and within 10 to 15 minutes of turning the indoor heating on, it was warm! PLUS:

  • There are no cold spots in the house due to your input on where to put the vents.
  • No sound of the internal unit under the floor.
  • We can keep our bedroom cool and the kids' rooms warm at the same time.
  • The system is pretty much set and forget; all thermostat and timer-controlled.
  • The system performs just as well cooling the house during summer.
  • Maintenance-free. (The only thing we do is vacuum the air filter every once in a while).
  • Running costs are lower than our old place (which was much smaller with panel and blower heaters).

It is great to meet someone who is willing to really back the products that they sell. I am really happy we invested in the systems you recommend.
